Students from the Lula Washington Dance Theatre School warmed hearts of more than 1,000 people who attended the school’s annual recital on Sunday, June 26 at the Marsee Auditorium inside El Camino College. Long time audience members who had been seeing the kids dance for years, said it was the best Recital ever. Some 150 children participated on stage while two dozen parents volunteered behind the scenes to bring it all together. This year’s recital included a guest appearance by LWDT company member Michael Battle; stunning ballet numbers featuring students and guest artist Ramon Thielen from Dance Theater of Harlem; rousing tap, African and Caribbean dances; and a number of performances by the Youth Dance Ensemble. However, it was the Tiny Tots who stole the audience’s hearts time and time again — not only because they were cute, but, because they were so together.
