LWDT’s Kwanzaa is Moving!
Lula Washington Dance Theatre (LWDT)’s annual Kwanzaa celebration is moving! The dance company will move its popular holiday concert from its studio on Crenshaw Boulevard to the larger Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, 4718 Washington Blvd., LA CA 90016. The move is being made to accommodate larger crowds.
The concerts are set for Thursday and Friday, Dec. 29 & 30, 2011 at 7pm. A pre-concert reception will be held each night at 6pm – with funds going to LWDT’s Children’s Dance Fund, established by LWDT patron Beulah Frankle. This fund provides scholarships to inner city children who cannot afford to pay for dance classes.
Lula Washington’s international touring ensemble will join dancers from the LWDT school in the fiery and electrifying, “Harambee Suite” set to West African drumming. Jazz musicians Kamasi Washington and Marcus L. Miller’s Freedom Jazz Movement band will perform.
Kwanzaa is a cultural holiday celebrating “first fruits” – children, family, and community. Tickets will be sold at the LWDT Studio, 3773 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles CA 90016. Info: 323-292-5852.
