The Lula Washington Dance Theatre (LWDT) Youth Dance Ensemble has been busy all year with concerts around the greater Los Angeles area. LWDT’s African dance students were invited to dance for the second year in a row at the graduation of African-American students from Cal State Los Angeles. The graduation takes place annually at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
Earlier this year, LWDT students performed a hip hop dance number for Lineage Dance Company’s Pasadena Dance Festival. That event also took place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The choreographer was 16-year-old Pondesa Munir. Pondesa also was a choreography winner in last year’s Taste of Soul Dance Festival. She is a scholarship student at LWDT.
In May, the LWDT Children’s Ensemble performed at the California African Museum as part of the Museum’s Literacy Day festivities. The youth dancers were extremely impressive with their great dance skills. They have become regular performers at the Museum.
The youth dancers are seen annually in LWDT’s June Recital at El Camino College’s Marsee Auditorium. No matter where they perform, Lula Washington Dance Theatre’s youth dancers always leave the crowd happy and hungry for more.
