Dance Company Auditions

Lula Washington Dance Theater (LWDT) is looking for both male and female dancers. If hired, dancers should be available to start work immediately. All auditions are held within Company Classes on Tuesdays from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Dancers may be invited to stay until 2 p.m. to show how well they perform Company repertoire.

LWDT performs powerful performances that transcend technique, offering works rich in meaning, passion, emotion, and social consciousness. In addition to Lula Washington’s own choreographic voice, the Company also showcases works by other leading choreographers such as Rennie Harris, Donald McKayle, Katherine Dunham, Donald Byrd, Louis Johnson, Christopher Huggins, Rudy Perez, Tamica Washington-Miller, and many others.

Dancers may audition for short-term or long-term involvement with the Company, as well as for consideration in future openings. All newly accepted dancers go through a probationary trial period before becoming full members. The Dance Company operates year-round, and dancers are compensated for both rehearsals and performances.

LWDT also accepts apprentices and aspiring dancers for its Professional Development Intensive (PDI). New dancers placed in PDI are sometimes prepared during LWDT’s annual Summer Dance Intensive.
