Dance Company Auditions

Lula Washington Dance Theatre looks for versatility, athleticism, and fast learners. We hold auditions year-round for new dancers who want to soar.

Lula Washington Dance Theater (LWDT) is looking for both male and female dancers. If hired, dancers should be available to start work immediately and to tour nationally. All auditions are held within Company Classes on Tuesdays from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Dancers may be invited to stay until 2 p.m. to show how well they perform Company repertoire.

You should call ahead (323-292-5852) to confirm that class is happening. Class does not meet when the Company is on tour or on break.

LWDT performs exciting works that are beyond technique. Lula Washington’s works have meaning, passion, emotion, and social consciousness. The Company also performs works by other leading choreographers including Rennie Harris, Donald McKayle, Katherine Dunham, Donald Byrd, Louis Johnson, Christopher Huggins, Rudy Perez, Tamica Washington-Miller, and many others.

Dancers can audition for short term or long term involvement with the Company, as well as for future openings. All newly accepted dancers go through a probationary trial period before they are fully brought into the Company. The Dance Company works year-round, and dancers are paid for rehearsals and shows.

LWDT also accepts apprentices and aspiring dancers for its Professional Development Intensive (PDI). New dancers placed in PDI are sometimes prepared during LWDT’s annual Summer Dance Intensive.
